Closing the Gap

Why Hardie Consulting

Why Hardie Consulting

Why Hardie Consulting

Executive coaching and organizational culture consulting

"I can't get anybody to work. And I can't get anybody to stay."

It's the first thing most clients say. Sometimes it comes out as frustration. Sometimes exhaustion. Either way, it's never really about the workers.

It's about the gap.

The gap between what leaders believe they're building and what their people are actually experiencing. Between the culture described in the employee handbook and the one that shows up on Monday morning. Between intention and impact.

That gap has a cost. You feel it in turnover numbers, in exit interviews nobody reads, in the disengagement of people who stopped believing the story they were told when they were hired. The symptoms look different, but the root cause is almost always the same .

Closing that gap is why Hardie Leadership Consulting exists.

We start with a real conversation ... not a diagnostic, not a discovery call with a pitch at the end. A conversation where you can say the messy, uncomfortable, sometimes embarrassing things that don't make it into leadership meetings. Because that's where the real work begins.

If any of this sounds familiar, you already know it's time to talk.

Remote keynotes, trainings, and workshops

Scott Brown of Hardie Leadership Consulting is a fantastic speaker and audience favorite! His presentation provided the necessary leadership insight that our attendees crave at the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Show. It was a pleasure working with him and I look forward to having him back at our future shows!  - Patricia C., Event Planner

Engage, then empower...that is what I've seen Scott Brown do over and over with his audiences—audiences as diverse as youth baseball teams to corporate professionals. In my 20 years as a marketing professional, I've sat through many speakers and I am here to testify that Scott's ability to tailor a message, relate to his audiences, and build a rapport is unmatched.

Whether you are trying to define a culture, build upon an existing culture, or change your current culture, Scott Brown can help you deliver success.  - Erik D., VP of Marketing

Scott Brown  has distinctively developed the concept that employee engagement is foundational to organizational success ... and that the effectiveness of an organization's culture matters more than its strength. He emphasizes the importance of aligning organizational values with employee behaviors to create and sustain a dynamic organization. A great book that connects personal experience with sound theory and research.- Melvin H., Ph. D.

Most leaders don't think of themselves as storytellers. They think of themselves as communicators ... people who convey information, set direction, and drive results.

Then something shifts.

It usually sounds like this: "Oh. Storytelling isn't a technique. It's the thing that makes everything else land."

That's the moment Scott works toward in every coaching engagement. The moment a leader stops thinking about what they need to say and starts understanding how story creates the conditions for people to believe it.

Scott explores how the stories leaders tell ... and the ones they model ... shape organization's culture. He closes the gap so people engage not because they have to, but because they want to.

The coaching goes beyond the words. Scott helps leaders use everything ... movement, pause, the stage itself ... as part of the story. Because when a leader learns to move with purpose, the gestures follow naturally. The room leans in.

When leaders become storytellers, organizations stop feeling like machines and start feeling like places worth belonging to.

That's the shift. And it's available to more leaders than you'd think.

The Constant in Alignment

From Teller to Storyteller

From Teller to Storyteller

Person giving a speech to an audience.

There's a moment that happens in almost every engagement.

Scott introduces a simple idea borrowed from mathematics ... the difference between constants and variables. In any equation, the constant never changes. The variable does. And in most organizations, the leader is the only true constant. Everyone else comes and goes.

The room gets quiet.

Then comes the question nobody wants to sit with: what if the gap between the organization you have and the one you want isn't about your people at all?

Most leaders arrive convinced the problem is out there ... in the workforce, the economy, the generation that won't commit. The alignment work reveals something more uncomfortable and more useful. The overstory the leader believes they're living and the understory their people are actually experiencing have drifted apart. Sometimes by a little. Sometimes by a lot.

That's not a people problem. That's a leadership opportunity.

The leaders who do this work will tell you the shift is disorienting at first. Looking inward always is. But it's also the moment everything starts to change.

Closing that gap is where the real work begins. And it starts with one honest conversation about the distance between what you intend and what your people feel.
